Here’s a prompt for us today. What would I do if I loved myself? Now, this is a great question for general productivity. A person who loved themselves would tend to their needs to the best of their ability and circumstance. However, the whole journey into asking ourself this question (and others like it) may lead to some deeper follow-up questions. Is there an absence of love there already? Why do I need a prompt like this?
Welcome to the wacky world of affirmations! This is where we confront our vices and work on habit-forming/habit-changing behaviors.
I like to think of affirmations as habitual statements geared toward a larger goal. Let’s go back to our question at the introduction. What would I do if I loved myself? Rephrase into an affirmation. I love myself enough to get up and try today. Now, split that sentence into smaller, more concrete goals. I will get up out of bed today. I will brush my hair. I will do the work that is required of me today. Each concrete goal or checkpoint gets progressively harder. However, with each accomplishment, you can say you did something that you previously thought you lacked the courage or strength to do.
I made a YouTube video that may also help in our journey working with affirmations. See the link below.
I get wishy-washy on my affirmations at times. I think one of the key components there is that I think I lack the energy, and therefore I do. It’s like that Billie Eilish song and generally famous phrase, “I think, therefore I am.” When we breathe life into thoughts, they become habits. The good news, if we change our thinking to the positive, then those become habits too!
I’m not going to lie to you, sometimes it feels like playing pretend. A voice inside says, “This is not who you are!” That can definitely be discouraging. However, don’t let that voice dissuade you entirely. This is what I talk about when I make reference to inner strength. Intrusive thoughts are just ghosts. They are hollow shells that are passing through. Don’t give them serious attention. That’s what I’m learning.

We have the power to overcome our intrusive thoughts. I’m not saying every day is going to be a victory. But every day that we try cannot possibly be a day that we fail. The one unfortunate side effect of this process is that we have to confront our bad habits and things we don’t like. Take stock of ourselves, “warts and all.” We have to be willing to wade through the discomfort and strategize how to get out of a pattern or rut. And I will not deny there is comfort in patterns, no matter how destructive they truly are. But again, I have good news for you. You’ve made it this far into the post. You are ready to stand tall against these behaviors and make a decision for yourself, preferably by yourself.
As a person who recently got into tarot cards, I tell my clients time and time again, trust your intuition. Here is another facet of inner strength. Our gut feelings. If you feel called to practice self-love and healing, do not ignore that voice. It is my personal belief that it is your higher self and guardian angels telling you now is the time. You are ready.

I hope this post resonated with you. Let me know in the comments. I’m excited to be getting back to some blog-exclusive content. By the way, all images from today’s post can be found on my Instagram. If you want, check it out! Enjoy the rest of your day!
